Feb 5  A scene from the powerful film The Shawshank Redemption will be performed, followed by a discussion.
The Shawshank Redemption, nominated for seven Academy Awards in 1994, tells the story of Andy Dufresne ( David Otto Simanek), a banker who spends nearly two decades in Shawshank State Prison for the murder of his wife and her lover despite his claims of innocence.  During his time at the prison, he befriends a fellow inmate, Ellis Boyd "Red" Redding (Troy Stolp), and finds himself protected by the guards after the warden begins using Andy in his money laundering operation.  In this scene, Andy and Red express different views about the concept of hope.

Hebrews 11:1  "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."

Feb 12  Love is in the air
Join us for a short conversation about love, including a reading from Song of Solomon and a look at why Feb. 14 is a feast day for Cyril and Methodius (missionaries to the Slavs) and NOT to St. Valentine.  We will conclude with enough time for parish members to go to coffee hour to hear stories from their friends about their wedding and admire wedding photos brought in that day.
